IBS Therapy Glasgow

When your gut has quietly taken over your life

If you're living with IBS, you already know it's about far more than an upset stomach. It's knowing where every toilet is, on every route, in every building. Eating less and less just to feel safe. Turning down the day out because you couldn't be sure. Planning your whole life around a gut you can't predict. It's exhausting. Not only the symptoms, but the constant planning around them.

The tests came back clear. You didn't feel relieved.

You did everything they asked. The elimination diets. The supplements. The bloods, the scopes, the referrals. And the answer came back: it's IBS, try to manage your stress.

As if you weren't already trying. As if it were all in your head. It isn't in your head. But it does live in the constant conversation between your gut and your brain. And that conversation is exactly what this work changes.

Your gut and your brain never stop talking

They're wired together, directly. When that signalling gets stuck in alert mode, your gut becomes oversensitive and overactive. Normal digestion starts to register as pain. Ordinary movement becomes urgency, or cramping, or bloating.

That's why your symptoms are real, not imagined. And it's why calming and retraining that gut-brain signalling can settle the whole system, instead of just managing it from the outside.

You're not trying to cope better. You're working at the level that's actually driving it.

How The Therapy Works

The approach I use is gut directed hypnotherapy. It's a structured, clinical programme designed specifically for IBS, delivered one to one.

Over a series of sessions, we work directly with the gut-brain communication behind your symptoms: reducing the oversensitivity, settling the urgency and the cramping, and moving your nervous system out of constant high alert so your gut can finally calm down.

The evidence for it is strong. NICE recognises gut-directed hypnotherapy as an option for IBS where symptoms haven't responded to standard treatment. Find out why gastroenterologists now recommend it.

It's a recognised approach with real research behind it, and it works alongside your medical care, not instead of it.

Sometimes the gut isn't the whole story

For a lot of people with IBS, the symptoms and the anxiety feed each other. The gut flares, so you worry. The worry keeps your system on high alert, so the gut flares again. Round it goes.

I also use an approach called Integral Eye Movement Technique alongside the gut-directed work. It's quick and gentle, and it helps settle the anxiety, negative memories, the old stress patterns and the "here we go again" dread that can sit underneath the physical symptoms.

We treat the gut and the system driving it, not one without the other.

Is This For You?

You may benefit from support if you:

  • Have a confirmed IBS diagnosis, with the serious causes already ruled out

  • Have tried the diets, the supplements and the medication, and still struggle

  • Know where every toilet is, wherever you go

  • Eat less and less, or avoid foods and situations, to feel safe

  • Feel the bloating, cramping or urgency take over by the end of the day

  • Plan your days around your gut, and turn down things you'd love to do

  • Feel dismissed, told it's "just IBS" while it quietly runs your life

  • Want a recognised, evidence-based approach, not a gimmick

If you haven't yet seen a doctor about your symptoms, please do that first. This works best once organic causes have been excluded, and your free consultation is a good place to talk that through.
